On today’s Off the Floor, we talk to New York State Assemblymember Karines Reyes of District 87 in the Bronx. A proud Dominican-American, Karines has been pushing for legislation to protect immigrants from ICE and unlawful deportations through the New York for All Act. Her background as a registered oncology nurse has also factored into her political work, as she pushes for bills expanding access to nutritional information in our food...now if only she could find a way to eat healthy during session in Albany.

On today’s Off the Floor, we talk to New York State Assemblymember Anil "AJ" Beephan, Jr. of District 105 in Dutchess County. AJ has many loves - black coffee, cowboy boots, and his hobby as a licensed pilot being just a few - but nothing compares to his love for his district. That's why he makes sure to collaborate with everyone regardless of party affiliation as long as it's for the benefit of New Yorkers, particularly when it comes to issues of domestic violence.

Ep. 8: Khaleel Anderson on Respect for the Rockaways

On today’s Off the Floor, we talk to New York State Assemblymember Khaleel Anderson of District 31 in Southeast Queens. Khaleel's election to the Assembly made him its youngest Black member in history, not to mention one of its youngest in general, but he hasn't been resting on his laurels. With his support for relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy, fighting for reparations, and making sure his community benefits from the renovations to JFK (which his district contains), Khaleel is a champion for all who live in New York City's "Ninth Ward".

Ep. 7: Paula Kay on Her Full-Circle Career

On today’s Off the Floor, we talk to New York State Assemblymember Paula Kay of District 100, which contains parts of Sullivan and Orange County. Having started her career in law in order to work in government, Paula now considers it a happy irony that she uses her position in the Assembly to help create laws. Pair that with stories from her time as an ice hockey captain and witnessing the aftermath of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and this is truly a conversation worth tuning in for.

Ep. 6: Angelo Morinello on Being "Judge"

On today’s Off the Floor, we talk to New York State Assemblymember Angelo Morinello of District 145, which contains parts of Erie County and Niagara County (including Niagara Falls). Lovingly called "Judge" by his colleagues, Angelo has had a long and varied career fighting for noble causes, whether it be serving in the Vietnam War, in the courts as a state judge, or in the chamber of the Assembly. We were lucky enough to catch him before he retires after this session, and he had plenty to say on the state of criminal justice and being part of the Assembly minority.
