Prof. Sundar Sarukkai is trained in physics and philosophy and has a PhD from Purdue University. He works primarily in the philosophy of the natural and the social sciences. He was the Founder-Director of the Manipal Centre of Philosophy and Humanities from 2010-15 and a professor of philosophy at the National Institute of Advanced Studies until 2019. Currently he is a visiting faculty at the Centre for Society and Policy, IISc Bangalore. He is also the Co-Chief Editor of the Springer Handbook of Logical Thought in India and the Series Editor for the Science and Technology Studies series, Routledge. He also founded Barefoot Philosophers.  He is the author of Translating the World: Science and Language, Philosophy of Symmetry, Indian Philosophy and Philosophy of Science, What is Science?, and two books co-authored with Gopal Guru – The Cracked Mirror: An Indian Debate on Experience and Theory and more recently, Experience, Caste and the Everyday Social. His book titled JRD Tata and the Ethics of Philanthropy was published in 2020. He has been actively taking philosophy to different communities and places, conducting philosophy workshops for children, and bringing philosophy to the public through his writing in the media and his initiative Barefoot Philosophers. His latest book is Philosophy for Children: Thinking, Reading and Writing, and it is being published in English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali. Host: Thrisha S. In the third episode of the Psi-comm podcast series, we talk about the Linchpin Directed Modification (LDM) technology developed by the team led by Dr. Vishal Rai, associate professor at IISER Bhopal, with Ms. Kalyani Thakur, a Ph.D. student in Dr. Rai's lab closely associated with this project. LDM is a novel technology to label specific regions of proteins more accurately as part of a larger goal of 'precision engineering' of proteins for human benefit.
