Yesterday I posted a video on my other socials about the impending arrival of my new grandson. I couldn’t poste it here because if there’s a way to post on Substack from my phone, I haven’t figured it out. My son and his wife elected for a birthing center 135 miles from here. The biggest factor in this selection was affordability. And it wasn’t affordable. Her water broke at 3am. They told her to go to a hotel and wait it out until she was closer. I was pretty upset yesterday as I listened from the hallway to my daughter-in-law going through labor in a hotel room. This is the follow-up video to let everybody know how things panned out. A single headline made me stop. Not because of what happened, but because of how the story was framed. This isn’t a discussion about whether Democrats should criticize Republicans. That’s politics, especially during an election year. What caught my attention was the subtle message I think the headline sends before anyone has even read the article. Am I making too much out of a little ‘ol headline? I’d genuinely like to know what you see after watching the video. Vic Meyers for Democracy [https://vic4hd47.com/] This is a public episode. One of the things I believe elected officials should do is educate voters, not just repeat consultant-tested talking points. A Facebook comment claiming that only “illegals” lost Medicaid benefits gave me an opportunity to explain something many Americans don’t know: millions of retirees rely on Medicaid to help pay their Medicare Part B premiums. When that assistance disappears, the consequences are very real. This piece isn’t about scoring political points. It’s about making sure we’re arguing from the same set of facts. As always, I welcome thoughtful disagreement. Vic Meyers for Democracy [https://vicmeyersfordemocracy.com/] This is a public episode.
