This month I’m joined by my publicist, Ron Childs, founder and CEO of OMEN Communications, a Chicago-based media relations and consulting firm. An award-winning journalist and communications strategist, Ron has served as Executive Editor of The Chicago Defender, Senior Media Relations Strategist at Burrell Communications, and Vice President of Media Relations at Flowers Communications Group. A proud Grambling State University graduate and Mass Communication Hall of Fame inductee, he brings decades of expertise in multicultural media, public relations, and editorial leadership—helping organizations craft narratives that resonate across diverse audiences. On this episode, Ron and I reflect on my first year as an author: the steps I took to release my book, the obstacles I faced, and how the wine industry has evolved since I first entered it more than 25 years ago. We also dig into the differences and synergies between PR and marketing—and why both are essential to building lasting impact.

Uncorking History: Adrian Miller on Food, Culture & the White House

In this special episode of Sips and Swigs, Stephanie Browne sits down with award-winning food historian, author, and former White House advisor Adrian Miller for a fascinating conversation exploring the untold stories behind America’s most influential kitchens. From documenting the legacy of soul food and barbecue to uncovering the extraordinary contributions of Black chefs who served generations of presidents, Adrian shares insights from his celebrated body of work and the discoveries that changed the way he understands American history. Together, Stephanie and Adrian discuss the people who shaped presidential dining behind the scenes, the role hospitality plays in diplomacy and leadership, and the historic 1994 White House state dinner honoring Nelson Mandela shortly after South Africa’s democratic transition. The conversation also explores Adrian’s newest work examining the culinary influence of Asian heritage chefs in White House history and reflects on why food remains one of the most powerful ways to tell stories, preserve culture, and connect communities. Pour a glass and join us for an inspiring conversation that proves history is often written—and remembered—at the table. More about Adrian @ https://www.soulfoodscholar.com
