016 Before the ABCs: The Language Roots of Reading (plus the lies we tell ourselves)

Reading doesn't start when a child picks up a book. It starts at birth: in the language-rich environment surrounding an infant, in the conversations, the stories, the back-and-forth that builds the neurological foundation for everything that comes later. That's why as SLPs, we are uniquely positioned to stop literacy failure before it starts.
