Freedom For
As W.E. celebrate freedom this Fourth of July weekend, let's thank God not only for the freedoms we enjoy as citizens, but for the greater freedom we have in Christ. Not the freedom to do whatever we want. Not merely the freedom to avoid doing wrong. But the freedom to love God, serve others, and become the people we were created to be.
Excommunicated
Without timely loving confrontation, the church stops growing. Without loving confrontation altogether, the church starts dying. Today, we are looking at the first and very specific issue in the church. It’s likely the worst and obvious issue, which creates a segue into the rest of the issues. However, for now, let's discuss potentially heinous issues in the church and what happens when there is no repentance.
Securing Attachments
Eye Contact. When we learn to be fully present with one another—without hiding, fixing, or turning away—we continue to develop the capacity to sit with the God of Joy, who is always glad to be with us… sin and all. Join us as we conclude our series: The Great Divide!
Styles of Attachment
We live in what many would call "the therapeutic age". Some even argue that personal feelings, individual happiness and generational scapegoating are the new normal. A few might even say there should be no marriage between orthodoxy theology and modern psychology. And I would tell those latter people they probably got that idea from their dad. (... hope you got that joke.) As Augustine is famously quoted, “All truth is God’s truth.” There is much to appreciate about the way our formational influences inform how we see ourselves, the world, and of course, God. What then must we take hold of as we learn from our past? ... and present? Join us again this Sunday (6/7) for a sweet summer pitstop series entitled The Great Divide: Moving From Anxiety and Avoidance to Secure Attachment With God.
Choosing Joy, God in Relationship
Perhaps the hardest part of faith is realizing we’ve often inherited a version of God that’s way too small. Too certain. Too manageable. Too reductionistic. As A.W. Tozer once wrote, our real idea of God may be buried beneath the “rubbish” of religious assumptions. What if God is more beautiful, mysterious, and present than we imagined? Join us this Sunday as we begin our summer series: The Great Divide — Moving From Anxiety and Avoidance to Secure Attachment With God
