Greg is busy dow in Florida pulling together another Resilient show, so Nick & Jay go it alone this episode… Brian Wilson was a gifted songwriter, musician, singer and producer. His influence is immeasurable. We share some thoughts on the loss of this legend. Song: Beach Boys - “God Only Knows” For the past ten years, Jay & Nick have been writing and recording nearly weekly (along with bassist, Kresimir Tokic) with the intent to release a second Sleepers album. The time has finally come. They discuss the process and play some songs from the new record. You can stream it for free or order it on vinyl over at bandcamp (https://sleepersmd.bandcamp.com/album/sleepers-2 [https://sleepersmd.bandcamp.com/album/sleepers-2]). It’s also available on Apple Music [https://music.apple.com/us/album/sleepers-ii/1820084604] & Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/79TuYSQ1v8hZ551SO1XIIU?si=prGJq1MzTfmLqaFh-iYsrw] as well. Songs: Sleepers - “Structural Integrity” Sleepers - “The Mark”

Nick picks up where he left off last week with another “News with Nick.” Have a few thousand dollars sitting around and always wanted to own something that belonged to David Lynch? Here’s an auction [https://www.juliensauctions.com/en/auctions/julien-s-auctions-turner-classic-movies-present-the-david-lynch-collection] just for you! TayTay buys back her records, and Eminem is suing Instagram (Meta). Song: Rival Sons - “Thundering Voices” In recent years, Greg has developed a deeper appreciation for Word of Mouth, Jaco Pastorius’s second solo album. While the record receives mixed reviews—some hearing signs of the personal struggles with addiction and mental health that would later claim Jaco’s life at just 35—Greg has come to believe there's something really special about it. You should give it a few listens and let us know what you think. Songs: Jaco Patorius - “Crisis” Jaco Patorius - “Three Views of a Secret” Jaco Patorius - “Liberty City” Jay remembers Rick Derringer & Sly Stone. Mr. Derringer, who passed at the age of 77, had a decades long career as a guitarist, songwriter, and producer. Stephen Thomas Erlewine said, in Allmusic, “James Brown may have invented funk, but Sly Stone perfected it." Mr. Stone passed last week at the age of 82. Songs: Steely Dan - “Showbiz Kids” Sly & The Family Stone - “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) Live”

As Jay mentions at the top of this episode, we had some significant technical issues this episode and only managed to get the first 30min of the conversation… we’ll be back next week with a full episode. Jay debuts a new game, “Yes, And.” Jay presents a theme and the contestants each have one minute to name things, back and forth, that fit that theme. Song: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - “Dragon (Live in Lithuania)” Nick has some news for us to catch up on, unfortunately we only hear the first half of it. Billy Joel cancels tour due to diagnosis & Emmy winning composer Alf Clausen has died at the age of 84. Song: Pipe-Eye - “Chakra” We’ve reached the magic month of June, and it feels like Summer has arrived. This time of year makes Keith nostalgic for the music released during our formative summers in the early-to-mid 90s. Songs: Primitive Radio Gods - “Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand” Baz Lurman - “Everybody’s Free”

Greg brings a unique situation to the show this week. Pitchfork recently reviewed the album “Face Down in the Garden” by Tennis. Tennis, in turn, released a review of the review (sound familiar?) that went viral (nevermind). This week, we’re reviewing a Review the Review! Song: Turnstile - “Lookout for Me” Jay caught an amazing show at Merriweather Post Pavilion last week, it’s Tales from the Concert. Sturgill Simpson has been getting some serious cred from the jam band community and Jay explains why. Starting at precisely 8pm, Simpson, and his incredibly talented band, went on to play 3 straight hours without stopping between songs. The performance, according to Jay, was impeccable and the stamina of the band was an impressive feat in its own right. If you get a chance to see him on his next tour, definitely do so. Song: Sturgill Simpson - “A Good Look (Live at Merriweather)” Finally, what do you know about Eurovision? Nick knew next to absolutely nothing before seeing it in the headlines and reading up on it. Armed with about 30min of knowledge, he decided to quiz the guys on their familiarity with the 69 year old event via Viral or Eyeroll. Song: Goose - “Thatch”

Nick catches us up on the news of the week. Zak Starkey is re-fired by The Who, BandCamp adjusts their terms and conditions, and Trump orders Springsteen investigated after The Boss criticized his administration on stage. Song: Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - “Qwik Maff” Greg first caught wind of Sleep Token back in 2022 and he had a feeling they were going places. Their latest album, Even in Arcadia, is now the number 1 album on Billboard 200 and that caught the attention of our good old friends at Pitchfork. This week, we’re back with a good old fashioned “Review the Review.” Songs: Sleep Token - “Emergence” Sleep Token - “Past Self” Jay was pondering Theseus’s Paradox on a recent drive (not really, but go with me on this) which is the thought experiment that questions the identity of an object over time when all of its parts are replaced. There are some touring bands that one could apply this question to, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Heart, and others. What do you think, is a band whose original members have all been replaced still the same band?
