Part 2 of Ralf Saade's Sonic Portraits. An exploration into the noise that shapes our lives, inviting listeners to rethink their relationship with sound - from passive hearing to active listening. In a world where noise pollution has become the second-largest health threat in urban areas, this 30-minute soundscape shows how constant noise wears on our minds and bodies, contributing to stress, anxiety, and learned helplessness. Yet, amidst the chaos, there is room for calm. By blending overwhelming noise with pockets of stillness, the work encourages a return to the present moment - a chance to hear what’s often ignored. It challenges us to slow down and listen with intention. At its core lies a simple idea: “There is no such thing as a neutral space.” Every environment influences us, just as we shape our surroundings. So why not take better care of our spaces, and in doing so, care for each other? Produced by Ralf Saade. Ralf is a Lebanese artist, designer and system thinker based in London. With a background in architecture, engineering, and computational design, his work explores how environments - physical, emotional, and social - shape the way we feel, think, and connect. Raised between cultures, Ralf developed a sensitivity to what society chooses to hear, and what it tunes out. His practice is rooted in hyperawareness: the belief that even small shifts in how we listen and respond can lead to more intentional, connected ways of living. Moving between silence and intensity, he creates experiences that invite pause and provoke reflection. At its core, his work is a call to wake up - to question business-as-usual and reimagine how we live in the world, with greater presence and care.
