Description

For our last episode of this podcast series around digital currencies, we are excited to be joined by Louise Johnston, Manisha Patel and Guillermo Pons, senior economists and specialists on Central Banking Digital Currencies (CBDCs) at the Bank of England! In this episode, we introduced the concept of CBDCs and discussed about how they differ from other forms of money, about the associated risks and benefits for the British youth, and about the work already achieved by the Bank of England.  This episode was filmed in late 2022, prior to the publication of the consultation paper.  Manisha Patel has since left the Bank or England.

Episode 4: What are Stablecoins & are Cryptocurrencies a Form of Money?

In our last episode before Christmas, we are excited to be joined again by Dr. Enrico Rossi, Research Associate at the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies and former head of the LSE online course on crypto-assets. Enrico is currently Research Lead at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance on decentralized financial markets infrastructures (dFMIs). Enrico will soon join the crypto-policy & regulation team of the FCA at the end of the year as a senior associate to work on the UK incoming crypto-regulatory framework. In this episode, we discussed stablecoins at length, and delved into existing forms of money and whether cryptocurrencies were to be considered as a form of money in the future.
