Beast of Burden
Stop mourning the person you used to be at 25. That younger version of you might have been fitter, leaner, faster or stronger. But they also had a completely different life. They probably had more time, fewer responsibilities, less stress, no kids, no demanding career, no mortgage, and more freedom to train whenever they wanted. In this episode of Beast of Burden, I talk about why so many busy adults get stuck comparing themselves to the person they used to be. “I used to be fit.” “I used to run.” “I used to lift heavy.” “I used to play sport.” “I used to be able to train all the time.” That may be true, but it may no longer be useful. The system that worked when you were younger may not work now. Not because you are finished, but because your life has changed. If you are over 40, with a career, family, travel, stress and responsibilities, you need a different approach. You need a system that fits the life you actually have, not the life you had 20 years ago. I talk about why twice-a-week strength training can be enough when it is done properly, why trying to go from zero to five sessions a week usually fails, and why stacking habits slowly often beats trying to change everything at once. The key point is this: you do not need to go back to who you were. You need to build the version of you that works now.
