episode Lessons from a Gubernatorial Election Recount cover

Description

In 1916 this Gubernatorial recount changed the outcome of the race but this story is a reminder of just how critical the administration of elections is to democracy.  Hosts Tom and Gina sit down with Jaynie Adams, a historian with the Arizona Historical Society to talk about the year that gubernatorial candidate Thomas Campbell lost his race to incumbent Governor George Hunt after Hunt challenged the results and asked for a recount. Governor Hunt became an Arizona icon. To this day, anyone that visits Papago Park in Phoenix can't miss Hunt's Tomb in the shape of a small white pyramid at the top of a hill within the park.  Learn more about why ballot design matters and what happens today if a candidate race is too close to call.   Guest: Jaynie Adams, Arizona Historical Society, Historian   Resources: Arizona Historical Society [https://arizonahistoricalsociety.org/] Hosted on Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy [https://ausha.co/privacy-policy] for more information.
