Description

Joseph Addison, renowned for his influential periodical The Spectator, also dabbled in the world of drama, crafting a handful of plays—one of which is Cato. This particular work, created independently of his collaborator Richard Steele, gained prominence as a source of inspiration for leaders during the American Revolution. Legend has it that George Washington staged this play at Valley Forge in 1778 to motivate his officers with its themes of self-sacrifice and republican virtues. Its no surprise that many stirring quotes from figures like Patrick Henry and Nathan Hale echo Addisons powerful words. Join us as we explore this timeless piece, brought to life by a talented cast led by Greg Giordano as Cato, and edited by ToddHW.
