Chain to Main Local News - Thursday, June 11, 2026

Waupaca tourism is proving to be a major economic engine. New data from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism shows visitors to the Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes area generated $180 million in economic impact during 2025. Tourism supported more than 1,180 jobs and produced over $11 million in state and local tax revenue. Waupaca Area Chamber and Visitor Bureau President Jeff Anderson says continued investment by local businesses, from downtown Main Street to the Chain O’ Lakes, is creating new attractions and experiences that draw visitors year after year. Officials say tourism growth continues to benefit local businesses, residents, and the regional economy. City officials in Waupaca are reminding residents that a feral cat trapping campaign near the Oman Street area will continue through the end of June. Live traps are being used to help address a growing feral cat population. Pet owners are reminded that cats and dogs must be leashed or kept on their property when outside. If a pet cat goes missing, contact the Humane Society of Waupaca County. Officials also warn that tampering with city-owned traps could result in fines. For questions, contact Code Enforcement Officer Dan Hansen at Waupaca City Hall. Looking for something fun to do today? The Waupaca Area Public Library is hosting an Instrument Petting Zoo from 1 to 3 p.m. today, giving people of all ages a chance to hold, explore, and try a variety of musical instruments. The no-cost, hands-on event is designed for anyone curious about music or interested in finding out which instrument might be right for them. The Instrument Petting Zoo takes place this afternoon at the Waupaca Area Public Library in the exhibit room.
