Chain to Main News for Friday, May 22nd

With your local Waupaca news for this Friday, May 22nd, I'm Durant Popple. Memorial Day is this coming Monday, and as such, some city services will have adjusted hours.  The Waupaca public library will be closed tomorrow, and on Monday closures will include City Hall, the library, the police department front office, the senior center, rec center, and the recycling center.  All city services will return to their standard operating hours on Tuesday the 26th.  This information is also available on the city's website, city of Waupaca dot org. Also on Memorial Day, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.  This ceremony takes important time to remember the service and sacrifice of our state's and our nation's military service members and veterans.  This event is free and open to the public, and will begin at 10am at the cemetery.  The WDVA recommends arriving early to find parking.  More information on the cemetery can be found online at Wis Vets dot com. The Parfreyville United Methodist Church has announced their 2026 children and youth grant recipients.  $1000 has been awarded to the Waupaca community arts hub to support tuition assistance, to help make lessons and classes, which can have hundreds of students per week, even more accessible.  $1000 has also been awarded to Golden Sands Research Conservation and Development Council, so as to support the Waupaca County Conservation Field Day, an annual full day of environmental education for about 400 5th grade students within the county.  $1000 has also been awarded to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, in order to support their project titled: No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In Our Town.  This project utilizes volunteers to build and deliver twin size beds to youth between 3 and 17 that are sleeping on the floor or other uncomfortable situations.  And finally, $500 was awarded to Trinity's Tiny Treasures preschool.  This money is to support a Toniebox audio system and companion headphones for the preschool's literacy center; to help foster independent reading habits, improve phonological awareness, and provide an inclusive learning environment for students with sensory processing sensitivities.  For more information about this program, including how to participate, you can contact the church office at 715 258 8615, or by emailing office at warm U M C dot com. Waupaca parks and rec has many programs available to people of all ages throughout the year.  The Waupaca youth soccer has an upcoming signup deadline of this Tuesday the 26th.  You can register for this and others of their many programs online, at Waupaca rec dot com; or by calling them at 715 258 4435.
