Waupaca is getting ready to celebrate Independence Day with a full day of hometown tradition. Saturday, the Fourth of July Parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Main Street, followed by a Knights of Columbus chicken barbecue and burger lunch at South Park. Later, the Chain Skiers perform at 5:30 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The celebration wraps up at dusk with fireworks over Shadow Lake starting at 9:30. Parking for fireworks is available at the Waupaca Recycling Center. The City of Waupaca is reminding residents that several municipal facilities will be closed for the Independence Day holiday. City Hall, the Police Department front office, Recreation Center, Senior Center and Library will all be closed Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th. The recycling center will be open Friday, closed Saturday.  Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for city services during the holiday weekend.  The City of Waupaca Band Concert series continues Friday night with live music beginning at 7 p.m. Organizers remind residents that, for the remainder of the season, all concerts will take place on City Square next to Waupaca's historic bandstand. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. In the event of rain, performances will move to Waupaca Middle School. For updates, visit the City of Waupaca Facebook page.
