My body, my choice? Hi, I’m Pastor Rob Pacienza, and this is where Christ meets culture. One of the biggest cultural lies surrounding the issue of abortion is that pro-life people are dictating to a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. But lots of laws tell us what we cannot do with our bodies—even common seatbelt laws. But much more importantly, abortion is not about what a mother can do with her own body. It’s about what she’s allowed to do with someone else’s body. Because the baby inside her is a distinct person in every way. The child has her own unique genetic code—every single one of the baby’s cells is genetically distinct from the mother’s cells. The baby often even has a different blood type. “My body, my choice” fails as a philosophy because there’s another body involved--a unique human being created in God’s image—even if she lives in a womb.
