Description

In today's episode Terry unpacks two stories of absolute obedience from Acts 9 and 10.   We see Ananias who literally made a decision to go visit Saul knowing that he might lose his life.  Sacrifice is sometimes asked of us as we obey!  And, God's direction may frighten us.  It's okay to ask for clarification, but once you have it, act!  Do what God has asked you to do.   Direction from God often comes unexpectedly.  It may cause us to change direction.  Saul was asked to change his plans and also his life purpose.  Peter changed his thoughts and turned away from what he had been taught....all because God instructed him.   When God speaks it can be an answer to prayer, as we see with Cornelius the centurion.  So, keep praying!  Cornelius saw unbelievable outcomes as a result of his prayers.   What is God saying to you today?  Are you listening?  That's the first part.  Once you hear the next step is to obey.  Take action and watch what God does with your obedience! 36 | Living Out Your Faith in Trials

Terry continues to share James' teaching about how to navigate trials by shifting our focus away from worldly status and toward eternal values. In this episode, we explore James 1:9-12 and discover how humility, perseverance, and remaining connected to Christ help us grow through life's difficulties rather than wither under them. We also examine how Jesus and Peter reinforce James' message, reminding us that God's Kingdom values humility over status and faithfulness over worldly success. Scriptures Covered * James 1:9-12 * Matthew 20:16 * Luke 14:7-14 * 1 Peter 5:5-7 * James 2:1-7 * Isaiah 40:6-8 * John 15:6 * Matthew 13:3-9 Key Takeaways * Our identity is found in Christ, not in wealth, poverty, position, or success. * Jesus consistently taught humility by placing others before ourselves. * Pride depends on self; humility depends on God. * Every person deserves dignity and honor because each bears God's image. * Everything in this world is temporary, but God's Word endures forever. * Physical aging is inevitable, but spiritual withering is not. * Remaining connected to Jesus allows us to continue growing through every season. * God blesses those who persevere through trials with steadfast faith and promises thecrown of life. 35| Finding Wisdom in Uncertain Times

Life often presents us with situations where we simply don't know what to do. Whether it's conflict in relationships, difficult decisions, unexpected trials, or seasons of uncertainty, James reminds us that we never have to face them alone. In this episode, Terry focuses on James 1:5–8 and we discover God's incredible promise: if we lack wisdom, we simply need to ask. God doesn't withhold wisdom or shame us for needing it. He gives generously to those who seek Him in faith. We'll explore the difference between human perspective and godly wisdom, practical ways to grow in wisdom through Scripture, prayer, and mature Christian mentors, and what it means to trust God without being tossed back and forth by doubt. If you're facing a difficult decision today, this episode will encourage you to stop striving for all the answers and begin seeking the One who has them. Scriptures Mentioned * James 1:5–8 * Proverbs 1:7 * Matthew 14:22–33 (Peter walks on water) * John 20:24–29 (Thomas' doubt   What's Next?   If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who may be walking through a difficult season. Trials are never easy, but they are often one of God's greatest tools for growing our faith. In this episode, Terry continues to unpack James chapter 1 and discuss how an understanding mind helps us navigate life's challenges. She explores the purpose of testing, the difference between God's testing and Satan's temptations, and why patience is one of the key signs of spiritual maturity. Through the examples of Abraham, Mary, Joseph, and Peter, we see how God uses difficult circumstances to strengthen faith, build endurance, and accomplish His purposes. episode 33 | Counting the Cost of Trials artwork

33 | Counting the Cost of Trials

Trials are an unavoidable part of life. Whether it's grief, illness, disappointment, unexpected loss, or circumstances beyond our control, hardship often arrives when we least expect it. In this episode, Terry explores what Scripture teaches about trials and how we can respond with wisdom instead of fear. Drawing from 1 Peter, James, and Job, Terry discusses how to "count" our trials, evaluate what God may be teaching us, and determine which burdens belong to us, which belong to others, and which need to be surrendered back to God. Key Scriptures * James 1:2-12 * 1 Peter 4:12 * Job 23:10 * Romans 8:28   What's Next?   If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who may be walking through a difficult season.
