An enlarged prostate pushes against the bladder, reducing its capacity, which is why one of the most common symptoms of an enlarged prostate is frequent urination at night. Frequent urination at night, or polyuria, can also be caused by the following: •Type 2 diabetes •Prediabetes •High-carb diets •Excess water intake at night •Alcohol •Caffeine •Certain medications •Kidney damage •Sleep apnea Most medications for an enlarged prostate work by reducing DHT, a powerful form of testosterone. The following natural remedies inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT: •Saw palmetto •Milk thistle •Stinging nettle root •Pumpkin seed oil The prostate has a lot of vitamin D receptors. Vitamin D regulates the growth of the prostate and helps prevent excessive growth. To increase your vitamin D, get more sun exposure or take at least 20,000 IU of vitamin D daily along with 350 mg of magnesium glycinate. As testosterone decreases, that can sometimes leave you with too much estrogen. DIM is an excellent remedy for hormonal imbalances related to estrogen. One of the most common contributors to an enlarged prostate is insulin resistance. Too much insulin can trigger the hormone IGF-1, which can increase the size of the prostate. Insulin is triggered by the consumption of carbohydrates and frequent eating. These 11 foods can help shrink the prostate 1. Low-carb foods 2. Wild-caught salmon/sardines 3. Arugula 4. Beets 5. Pumpkin seeds 6. Dark chocolate 7. Green tea 8. Tomatoes 9. Cod liver oil 10. Apple cider vinegar 11. Watermelon Avoid these foods for the best prostate health: •Sugar •Starches •Seed oils •Alcohol •Milk •Soda •Fried foods •Artificial sweeteners Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. There is no real estrogen or progesterone in birth control pills. Instead, there are synthetic versions of estrogen and progesterone that have been altered to mimic these hormones. But, there can be side effects. Increased risks associated with birth control pills: • Heart attacks  • High blood pressure  • Stroke  • Blood clots  • Breast cancer  • Dementia  • Depression  • Acne  • Mood swings  • Lupus  • Weight gain  • A deficiency in zinc and selenium  • Melasma  • An alteration of the microbiome Birth control pills shut down the production of estrogen and progesterone, which can have long-term effects on your health. It may even affect longevity. However, there is a hormone-free option that is FDA cleared and is 93-99% effective, depending on how well it’s implemented. This form of birth control is called Natural Cycles, and it doesn’t involve any medication whatsoever. If you’ve been on birth control pills or decide to continue taking birth control pills, it may be beneficial to do things to counter some of the chemicals in your liver. You can do this by consuming more cruciferous and fermented vegetables. You may also want to take zinc, selenium, B12, magnesium, and a good probiotic. Should you really be consuming fruit—is it even healthy? Find out! 0:00 Introduction: Is fruit healthy? 0:47 The truth about fruit 1:55 Low-sugar fruit 3:00 Understanding fructose 4:45 Check out this video on the glycemic load! Today I want to cover some interesting things about fruit. Fruit contains vitamin C, phytonutrients, and fiber. But does the bad outweigh the good? Fruits have at least 5 times more sugar than vegetables. In fact, 85% of a piece of fruit is sugar. If you’re eating fruit for health reasons, you may want to get your nutrients from a different source. Fruits have very low amounts of many nutrients that your body needs, including: • Protein • Fat • Iron • B vitamins • Calcium • Zinc • Omega-3 • Vitamin D Certain fruits have lower amounts of sugar and are fine to consume in small amounts, including: • Raspberries • Blackberries • Blueberries • Strawberries Fruit contains glucose and fructose. Fructose might be low on the glycemic index, but it’s not a healthy alternative to sugar. Only the liver can metabolize fructose, which means it can overload the liver and cause a cascade of issues. Other problems with fructose: • It causes you to feel less satisfied • It increases cortisol • It decreases insulin sensitivity • It contributes to a fatty liver Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 57, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
