Thiazide diuretics are the most commonly prescribed blood pressure medications and are taken by more than 40 million people. While they help remove excess sodium, they can also deplete magnesium, an essential mineral involved in blood pressure control. Without enough magnesium, calcium can build up inside the arteries, causing them to become more constricted. This is why calcium channel blockers are commonly used for high blood pressure. Magnesium acts as a natural calcium channel blocker and natural beta blocker. Many diuretics for high blood pressure can also deplete potassium. Potassium and magnesium work together to help keep the arteries relaxed, yet deficiencies in both nutrients are very common. Potassium also depends on adequate magnesium to function properly. Vitamin D deficiency may also contribute to hypertension, and vitamin D relies on magnesium for proper activation and function. The worst food ingredients often have the following components: •Devoid of protein •Create a blood sugar spike •Artificial flavorings •MSG •Manipulated texture •Good mouth feel •Bliss point •Signals the release of dopamine •Pleasure when eating Avoid the following toxic ingredients, often found in ultra-processed foods. 1. Trans fats Some foods still contain trans fats. This ingredient is even worse when combined with refined carbohydrates. 2. MSG Monosodium glutamate affects the hypothalamus in rats, causing them to overeat and become obese. This ingredient can make low-quality food taste better than it really is. 8. In this video, we’re going to take a look at edible bugs as an alternative protein source. Some say that we should be eating bugs by 2050 because of the growing population. Some blame climate change or claim that beef is not sustainable and that we need to find other sources of food. One hundred grams of bugs contains about 12 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, and 5 grams of carbs. If we were to eat insects as food, we’d need to eat 4x to 8x this amount to get enough protein! It could become quite expensive to consume this many bugs each day. The cost of edible insects could be lowered by lowering the quality of what they’re fed, but then the bugs will be less nutritious with less protein. Eating insects would also require people to give up their cultural and traditional foods which is not likely. When you compare bugs to beef, insects do not come close in terms of protein or nutritional value. Insects also carry pathogens. A 2019 study evaluated several cricket farms that were developing edible insects. Around 81% of the crickets had parasites and 30% were potentially pathogenic. There's also a higher incidence of worms, viruses, bacteria, and fungus in crickets. If you have an allergy to shellfish, you may also have an allergy to edible insects because they contain a similar protein. Bugs have an exoskeleton mainly composed of chitin which is an antinutrient and can not be digested by our microbiome. Sciatic nerve pain can be caused by a protruded disc, scar tissue on the nerve root, arthritis, an injury, or extended periods of sitting. Poor posture, excess driving, and aging can also contribute to the problem. Inversion uses the weight of your upper body to pull down on your lower back, creating negative pressure and increasing blood flow. This also breaks up adhesions and scar tissue. For the quickest lower back pain relief, try intermittent inversion traction. This involves inverting your body for 1 to 2 minutes and then repeatedly returning to an upright position. It can significantly reduce sciatic nerve pain by targeting the nerve, disc, scar tissue, and blood flow all at once. Research has shown that inversion therapy increases flexibility, reduces the risk of surgery for sciatica, and can relieve lower back pain better than medication. If you have high blood pressure, glaucoma, or heart problems, check with your doctor before doing inversion therapy. Start slow with inversion therapy. Begin with a gentle angle of 15–30 degrees for just 1–2 minutes, once or twice a day for the first week. Gradually work up to 5 minutes at a time (in 1-minute intervals) at a 60-degree angle over the next 1–2 weeks. After 3–4 weeks, you can try full inversion for 15–20 minutes, broken into 2-minute intervals, three to four times per week. Intermittent inversion traction will leave you feeling taller with less sciatic nerve pain. You’ll also feel like you’ve had a fantastic stretch! Other ways to eliminate sciatica pain include: •Following a low-carb ketogenic diet •Take 20,000 to 30,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 400 mg of magnesium glycinate (include vitamin K2) •Eliminate omega-6 seed oils from your diet •Perform myofascial stretching You can also perform sciatica stretches without an inversion table! Try the child’s pose with blankets, a wall-assisted leg-up stretch, or lying spinal decompression with a stability ball for sciatic nerve pain relief. Swimming can also be very therapeutic.
