The Book of James Bible Study - Everyday Serenity: Faith, Life & A 12 Step Devotion
📘 Episode Notes January 19: Tradition 7 — Carrying Our Share With Gratitude In today’s episode, Jacob explores Tradition Seven, a principle that teaches the beauty of self‑support. This tradition reminds us that each group — and each member — has the privilege and responsibility to carry their own part, contributing to the spiritual home we share. Self‑support is not about money alone. It’s about ownership, gratitude, and humility. When we carry our own load, we protect our group from outside pressures, keep our purpose clear, and honour the spiritual simplicity that makes the Book of James Bible Study a safe place to grow. ✨ Key Themes * Self‑support builds unity and serenity. * Responsibility is a spiritual discipline, not a burden. * Small contributions — time, service, presence — matter deeply. * Depending on outside resources can create pressure or entitlement. * Gratitude grows when we recognise what we can give. 📖 Scripture Galatians 6:5 (NIV) — “For each one should carry their own load.” This verse beautifully captures the heart of Tradition Seven: maturity, responsibility, and shared participation. 🧩 Personal Story Highlights Jacob shares a warm and honest story about a time when the group realised they were relying too much on the church building — expecting better chairs, better equipment, better conditions. A joking comment one night revealed a deeper mindset: “We should ask the church to buy us new chairs — they owe us!” But after prayer and reflection, the group recognised the value of taking responsibility for their own space. They pooled their resources and bought a small number of comfortable chairs. It wasn’t about the chairs at all. It was about ownership, gratitude, and the quiet joy of contributing to the place where they gathered each week. Small acts of self‑support created deeper unity and freedom. 🙏 Prayer From the Episode “Lord, teach me to carry my part with gratitude. Help our group remain self‑supporting, humble, and free from outside pressures. Cultivate a spirit of generosity within us, so that our fellowship reflects Your grace. Amen.” 📝 Reflection Questions * What does it look like for me to carry my share this week? * Where might I be waiting for others to step in when I could take responsibility myself? * How can I practice joyful generosity — not pressure, not obligation — but gratitude? 🎧 Listen & Share If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who supports your group or helps create its welcoming environment.
