*Update 3/26/21* It was announced that Second Sight Films (a British label that distributes underseen gems and cult classics to larger audiences) will be releasing a special edition Blu-ray of Lake Mungo on May 31st, 2021. This edition of the film will contain numerous special features like audio commentary from David Rapsey and John Brawley (a producer of the film and the DOP), video essays, deleted scenes, and more. You can order your copy of the special edition here - https://secondsightfilms.co.uk/products/lake-mungo-limited-edition In this episode, we explore one of the most perplexing mysteries of the modern cinematic era: what happened to writer/director Joel Anderson? In 2008, he gave us one of the strongest horror films of the 2000s before abruptly vanishing from the industry. Even though Joel is gone, Lake Mungo stands as a monument; a beacon of light amidst a generation of underwhelming, poorly crafted horror films that misunderstood the genre. If you've never seen Lake Mungo, make this forgotten relic a priority this spooky season.  If you want to support Film Thieves, you can easily do so by leaving a comment on iTunes and rating the show 5 stars. Seriously, I can't convey strongly enough how helpful that is for this podcast. And if you have any information about Lake Mungo or Joel Anderson that you would like to share, please feel free to contact me - filmthieves@gmail.com Intro & Outro music - "Where Did the World Go" by NÜ Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi3iVRYnXw4ZlVh0XI6ei0Q [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi3iVRYnXw4ZlVh0XI6ei0Q] Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/jack-kennedy-201616776 [https://soundcloud.com/jack-kennedy-201616776]

The Renaissance of the Horror Genre

Horror films are extremely divisive. People tend to either love the horror genre or hate it with every ounce of their being. I love these movies and think that their evolution over the last hundred years, and their impact on cinema is fascinating. In this episode, I give a brief overview of the horror genre, how it started to decline in quality, and how it, like the Prodigal Son, returned home to its roots.  Thank you for listening to the pilot episode of this podcast. If you want to support Film Thieves, the best way to do that is to leave a review and subscribe. This podcast is heavily dependent on chill beats to set the vibey tone I'm going for, so be sure to check out the work of the artists whose songs I used in this episode below.  Intro music - "Where Did the World Go" by NÜ Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi3iVRYnXw4ZlVh0XI6ei0Q [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi3iVRYnXw4ZlVh0XI6ei0Q]  Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/jack-kennedy-201616776 [https://soundcloud.com/jack-kennedy-201616776] Outro music - "I've Told You" - by SEA Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaxxcrOqOzI [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaxxcrOqOzI]  Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/alexandre-sercer [https://soundcloud.com/alexandre-sercer]  Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/5yJ0VbxI0ZCekj1DrRI53O [https://open.spotify.com/artist/5yJ0VbxI0ZCekj1DrRI53O] Be sure to follow the podcast on Twitter @filmthieves and Instagram @film_thieves to keep up with everything happening in the life of this show and the world of cinema.
