God's Word preached.
Text: 1 Corinthians 10:31 -- Speaker: Tony de la Riva -- It's common to hear 1 Corinthians 10:31 quoted as an altruistic, abstract goal. Sometimes it's even used as a justification for any and every practice—both in the church and in the lives of individual Christians. As long as we think that we're glorifying God, then whatever we're doing must be good. But what does 1 Corinthians 10:32 say? Or what about verse 23? And is there any connection between them and verse 31? The point, we trust, is clear: If we're going to obey that command, we have to know what Paul meant by it. And what the context makes clear is that the charge to glorify God is not an abstract platitude, but a call to selfless, Christlike love that puts others first. -- Woodland Park Bible Church is located in North County, San Diego.
