I know we both have been there and it's easy to talk ourselves in or out of hearing from our Creator. Sometimes we lack the faith to believe He is speaking, or sometimes we may be getting in the way of actually hearing His voice due to all the external noice and voices that surround us. It's vital in our walk with God to not just learn His character through the scriptures but to also spend intentional 1 on 1 time with Him in prayer.
