Almost every African-American or Latino can tell a story about being pulled over by the police for no apparent reason other than the color of his or her skin, especially if he or she happened to be driving in the "wrong place" at the "wrong time" or even driving the "wrong car." Victims of these racially motivated traffic stops rarely receive a traffic ticket or are found guilty of any violation of the law. It refers to the criminalization of black drivers. Driving While Black occurs when policemen use traffic offenses as an excuse for stopping African-Americans who have not committed any offense, questioning them, and searching them and their vehicles. In such cases, police stop black drivers without the usual requirement of ‘probable cause’ or ‘reasonable suspicion.’ The term is often abbreviated as DWB. https://www.aclumich.org/en/news/driving-while-black-what-it-and-why-its-important .
