Informal Leadership: A Replay from the Archives

Text the Show or Leave a Voicemail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1792621/fan_mail/new] This is replay of Bonus Episode 37 from 2024.   Steve Kellams from Blue Canary has devoted this season of his show to leadership topics and he brought me on to talk about informal leadership, because as a chaplain I have influence but no actual authority.  We ended up talking about several wellness topics and some of my philosophy of chaplaincy as well as why I started Hey Chaplain.  I asked Steve if I could use a condensed version of the interview and he agreed, so this a slightly shorter version of our conversation. 144 - The Chaplain Goes to an Autopsy: Kelsie Gwartney, Chief Death Investigator

Text the Show or Leave a Voicemail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1792621/fan_mail/new] This is episode 144 and we're going to talk about autopsies.  Don't worry I'm not going to take it too far; you can go ahead and keep eating your breakfast.  But I'm going to share with you the my recent visit to observe an autopsy and also my conversation with the local Chief Death Investigator.  First I made a recording of my thoughts as I drove to visit the coroner's office to observe an autopsy.  Then I recorded my reaction immediately after experiencing my first autopsy.  Finally, we'll sit down with Chief Death Investigator Kelsie Gwartney, who will share how she got into the business of doing autopsies and what a police officer should know, that I didn't know, before you go observe an autopsy for the first time. 143 - Expert Testimony In 21 Feet Or Less: Doug Deaton

Text the Show or Leave a Voicemail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1792621/fan_mail/new] Imagine that someone with a knife or another deadly weapon is charging at you with intent to kill.  How close do they have to be for you to deploy deadly force?  Did you say 21 feet?  That's what I've always been told.  But what if you take that shot and now you're on trial for murder and the prosecutor has evidence that says the assailant was twenty-two feet away when you took your shot.  Oh, no!   Our guest today is Doug Deaton, and hopefully your lawyer will hire someone like Doug, a veteran cop and expert on use of force issues, to give testimony as an expert witness in court.  Doug has done exactly that and I brought him today to tell the story of when a lawyer let him explain the 21-foot rule to a jury.
