episode The Light at Thorny Mountain Firetower cover

Description

October 1987. A dry autumn in eastern Kentucky, and the fire towers are staffed around the clock. Luna's uncle Earl takes a week-long shift at Thorny Mountain—a tower that's been closed for years, but this season they're short-handed. He brings his transistor radio, a thermos of coffee, and a .22 rifle for company. The first night, he sees lights moving in the hollows below, but there are no roads down there. The second night, the radio picks up a voice that sounds like his own. By the third night, he stops reporting what he sees to the ranger station. Luna tells the story the way Earl told her: sitting on the porch, drinking from a mason jar, watching the ridge line like he expected something to step out of the dark. This is a story about solitude, and what happens when the thing you're watching starts watching back. No gore. No monsters. Just a man, a tower, and a light that didn't belong. #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #HollowCountry #FireTower #ThornyMountain #EasternKentucky #1987 #Luna #Solitude #UncleEarl #TransistorRadio #LightInTheHollow #FireWatch #October #DryAutumn #RangerStation #WhatWatchesBack #AtmosphericHorror Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]

episode The Dust at White Oak Creek Church artwork

The Dust at White Oak Creek Church

In the summer of 1998, a man named Harlan Pugh rebuilt a collapsed church deep in White Oak Creek Holler. He worked alone, by kerosene lamp, and he did not use the blueprints the county had on file. Luna's uncle knew Harlan. He visited once, at dusk. The church went up in three months. The day it was finished, Harlan went inside and did not come out. When they found him, his body was dry as paper, and the dust on his clothes was not dust from the lumber. The church stood empty for two years before the county tore it down. But the foundation is still there. And if you walk up the hollow on a dry July evening, you can still see the shape of a man on the floorboards that were never removed. Luna tells the story of what her uncle told her, and what she found when she went to see for herself. #WhiteOakCreek #HarlanPugh #HollowCountry #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #Appalachia #ChurchHorror #Dust #Kerosene #1998 #LostStories #UncleBenny #DryBones #Foundation #WhatRemains #JulyHeat #SoloNarration #Atmospheric Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]

episode The Rope at Bucklick Creek Bridge artwork

The Rope at Bucklick Creek Bridge

September 1987. Luna is twenty-two, driving home through the Cumberland Gap after her grandmother's funeral. She takes a wrong turn onto Bucklick Creek Road, a gravel track that dead-ends at a one-lane bridge over a creek that barely runs. But the bridge isn't empty. A man in a grey wool coat is standing at the railing, coiling a length of hemp rope, calm as if he's been waiting. He doesn't look at her when he speaks. He tells her about the bridge's history—how every thirty years, someone comes here to finish what they started. And then he tells her that her grandmother was the one who stopped it last time. The rope is damp. He asks if she's ready to take her turn. #BucklickCreekBridge #CumberlandGap #Tennessee #September1987 #hemprope #funeral #grandmother #wrongturn #bridge #generations #ritual #thebridgekeeper #Luna #HollowCountry #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #SlowBurnHorror #AppalachianGothic Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]

episode The Church at Pigeon Roost Hollow artwork

The Church at Pigeon Roost Hollow

December 1963, Pigeon Roost Hollow, West Virginia. Luna's uncle Luther was a lay preacher who walked fifteen miles every Sunday to hold services in a one-room church that nobody else would go near. The congregation was seven people, always the same seven, and they never spoke a word after the final amen. Luther kept a stack of journals in a tin box under the pulpit — records of prayers that were never answered, names of the dead scratched out and rewritten in fresher ink. When the church burned down in January of '64, Luna found the box still warm in the ashes. She read the last entry aloud, and it wasn't Luther's handwriting. This is a story about devotion without a witness, about prayers that land somewhere but not where you meant them to go, and about the one Sunday when the congregation was eight. #HollowCountry #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #WestVirginia #PigeonRoostHollow #UncleLuther #LayPreacher #OneRoomChurch #Decembers #1963 #TinBox #Journals #Prayers #CongregationOfSeven #TheEighth #BurnedChurch #Ash #Handwriting Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]

episode The Bells at Mount Tabor Church artwork

The Bells at Mount Tabor Church

In the late autumn of 2019, Luna drove down a gravel road she'd never noticed before, past a sign for Mount Tabor Church that should not have been there. Inside, a woman named Evelyn was ringing a handbell in the dark, counting intervals of silence between each chime. She said she was waiting for the others to come back — the ones who disappeared from the congregation seventeen years ago, one by one, each vanishing on a night when the bell rang exactly three times. Luna sat on a wooden pew and listened as Evelyn told her about the deacon who went to check a noise in the basement, the choir director who stepped outside for air, the children who chased a ball into the woods. And then Evelyn handed Luna the bell and asked her to take a turn. This episode is a slow, hollow meditation on waiting, on rituals that outlast their meaning, and on the quiet horror of being asked to participate in something you don't understand. #TheBellsAtMountTaborChurch #MountTaborChurch #Evelyn #handbell #lostcongregation #gravelroad #autumn2019 #appalachianhorror #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #HollowCountry #LunaBarksdale #vanishing #seventeenyears #basement #choirdirector #children #ritual Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]

The Bell at Stinking Creek Schoolhouse

December 1973. A retired teacher named Marlene Coots returns to the abandoned Stinking Creek Schoolhouse one last time before it's demolished. She brings a mason jar of kerosene and a box of matches. She tells me what happened there in the winter of 1962 — the week the bell wouldn't stop ringing, even after they cut the rope. She shows me the names carved into the floorboards, and the place where the floor gives way to nothing. By the time she finishes her story, the kerosene is gone and the matches are spent. But the bell is still there, hanging in the cupola, and it has not rung in eleven years. Not once. Until tonight. #StinkingCreekSchoolhouse #MarleneCoots #Bell #1962 #1973 #KentuckyHollow #Kerosene #Matches #Floorboards #Cupola #Snow #December #Demolition #Ringing #Silence #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #HollowCountry Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo [https://buymeacoffee.com/fexingo]
