6 episodesI'm back again! It's been a long break but I'm back and ready to kick out a few more interviews. Dwayne Spiteri today! Really fun guy and got some good thoughts on the sense of community in academia. I think this one is a really appropriate talk to spring back on after my little mental confession last time. Give it a listen and take some of it onboard. It just might change how you think!
Hey Listener, not an episode today but something important that needs to be talked about and something I hope guests can discuss openly in the future. Mental health in academia is simply ignored and is not tackled in an effective way. Everyone is scared to talk and everyone is a little ashamed. However, I am not staying in academia so I don't care what people think. This shorter session is a longer monologue of me describing what I think has affected my mental health the most and problems in academia that most seriously affect my mood. The atmosphere is a little sombre on this one because it wasn't the best of days. I did need to think a little about how best to express myself. I hope this lets you know that you're not alone and that there are plenty of people having a hard time, not just you.
Busy busy busy! Finally back to it! Work got crazy for a while but I'm back with another episode. Jamie Quinn today, really cool guy. Smart, articulate and talkative. We cover the usual sins like careers, post-docs, how we got into this mess etc. Good to hear the same sort of stuff from a mathematician and not just the same old physics chat. Cool guy and worth a listen!
Episode 3! Brynley Pearlstone! I know Bryn through Bright Club at Glasgow and through friends of friends so this is a really casual talk. We talk about lgbtq issues, current state of the UK, careers, growing up in the middle of nowhere and plenty ofother things that leave me speechless with discomfort. Bryn's good at that. Enjoy!
Second episode with Jim Whittle! Another good friend from my undergraduate studies in Glasgow who has always had my back. Jim started off in physics, moved in to engineering and now is working on his PhD. More physics chat, teaching, careers (my ever-present worry) and our continual back-and-forth nonsense! Enjoy!
