Just a Good Conversation: Paul Spinelli

Paul Spinelli started photographing NFL football games in 1981. From 1983-85, He also photographed NCAA and USFL (United States Football League) football games. In 1986, Paul became the NFL lead photographer covering the New York Jets and many NFL Office events in New York City. In 1987, Paul was hired by Dave Boss as the NFL Director of Photographic Services. During my 16 year career as an NFL executive, He designed and secured funding for NFLphotos.com (the NFL's first digital photo archive and international licensing platform) and increased annual photo sales revenues by more than 500 percent. Paul created the NFL Photo Studio, managed the NFL Photo Sales department, and was responsible for the NFL Photo Library and its collection of more than three million football photos. Paul selected the photographers and supervised the NFL's Super Bowl and Pro Bowl photo crews. In 2003, when the NFL began outsourcing NFL Photos and the NFL Publishing and Photographic Services Departments, He launched SpinPhotos, Inc., a Southern California based photo and consulting business specializing in sports and sports archives. Paul worked as a sports and legal consultant for multiple companies including the NFL, Getty Images, Tennis Magazine, and Professional Bull Riders while continuing to photograph and license photos from NFL, NCAA, and Major League Baseball games. His professional football and baseball photographs have been published by  hundreds of sports magazines, books, newspapers, game programs, and worldwide media. These publications include Sports Illustrated, ESPN The Magazine, Sporting News, NFL Super Bowl Programs, and MLB World Series Programs. My photos have been used commercially by NFL and MLB consumer product licensees such as Panini America, EA Sports, The Topps Company and numerous corporate sponsors such as FedEx, Motorola, Samsung, Sony, Nike, DirecTV, Verizon, and Sprint. During his career, Paul photographed more than 1,300 NFL, NCAA, and MLB games, 33 NFL Super Bowls, 30 Pro Bowls, and hundreds of NFL playoff games. His NFL archive contains more than 300,000 photographs dating back to 1981. Most of these photographs have been digitized and uploaded to PhotoShelter and www.spinphotos.com  as an online portfolio and historical archive currently licensed commercially and editorially via AP Images. Prior to his NFL career, Paul was a freelance sports photographer based in New York City working on photo assignments for a wide variety of corporate clients including American Airlines, Geo Magazine, Jordache, the New York Road Runners Club, Nike, Perrier, the NFL, and MLB.

Matthew is a professional photographer, entrepreneur and self-described “lover of things old and appreciator of things new.” His style is inspired by story and portraiture, aiming for both timeless and fresh imagery. With an easy-going personal approach, he creates a natural feel for his clients.  As a portrait and commercial photographer, he’s traveled the country to shoot noted athletes like Shaquille O’Neill, Drew Brees, skate legends Duane Peters and Jason Adams and a host of Olympic medal winners. His work has been featured in several major print and online publications, including Martha Stewart, Elle Magazine, Huffington Post, Vice Magazine, Brides Magazine, The Knot and more. After earning a Business Management degree from Pepperdine University, Matthew spent time in the corporate world before launching and quickly growing his own photography company. Over the last decade, he’s refined his craft and become increasingly expert at high-level photo production as well as outdoor, natural light and lifestyle photography. Dr. Jerry Moore is an archaeologist, writer, editor, and professor of Emeritus in anthropology at California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA. Moore has conducted archaeological research in Peru, Mexico, and southern California. Moore's principal expertise is on the prehistoric architecture and cultural landscapes in the Andes. He has written the books, "Architecture and Power in the Prehispanic Andes: The Archaeology of Public Buildings" (1996 Cambridge University Press), "Cultural Landscapes in the Prehispanic Andes: Archaeologies of Place" (2005 University Press of Florida), "The Prehistory of Home" (2012, University of California Press, recognized with the 2014 Society for American Archaeology Book Award), "A Prehistory of South America: Ancient Cultural Diversity on the Least-Known Continent" (2014, University Press of Colorado), and "Incidence of Travel: Recent Journeys in Ancient South America" (2017, University Press of Colorado). He is currently working on a new book, "Ancient Andean Houses: Making-Inhabiting-Studying." Moore is the co-editor with Donald Laylander of "The Prehistory of Baja California: Advances in the Archaeology of the Forgotten Peninsula" (2006 University Press of Florida) which was chosen as a 2007 Choice Distinguished Book. Also, Moore has written one of the leading textbooks on anthropological theory, "Visions of Culture: An Introduction to Anthropological Theories and Theorists" (2018, 5th edition, Rowman and Littlefield) and he edited a companion collection of primary materials, "Visions of Culture: An Annotated Reader" (2018, 2nd edition, Rowman and Littlefield). Moore's writings have been translated into Spanish, French, Han Chinese, Turkish, and Croatian. Moore is also the editor of "Ñawpa Pacha: Journal of Andean Archaeology". Moore is also the editor for the series, Archaeologies of Landscape in the Americas, published by the University of New Mexico Press. Moore has been a Fellow in Precolumbian Studies at Harvard's Dumbarton Oaks Research Libraries and Collections in Washington D.C. (1992-93 and 2017), a senior scholar at the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia (1994), a Fellow at the Getty Research Institute (2001-2002), and a Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Durham University, UK (2013). He lives with his family in Long Beach, California, and provides food service to four cats.
