As we come to the closing of Colossians, we get valuable insight into the relational life of probably the most significant figure in the church following Christ's resurrection. This final personal greeting helps us see that the effective gospel-life, the fruitful Christian life, is inevitably relational. It's messy. It bruises. It is inconvenient. This week in Colossians 4, Paul is focusing on speaking to God in prayer. He tells us what a privilege it is to pray, and how powerful it is to bring our requests to an almighty God. As we move into the final chapter in Colossians, Paul explains how living under Christ's lordship affects every relationship in our lives - even with those over us and under our authority. But, the word "authority" today often has significantly negative connotations. But authority is not a threat to human flourishing in scripture - it's necessary to it!
