Smiley returns to the places and people most deeply tied to Samantha’s disappearance, only to find old grief, fragile hope, and impossible symbols waiting for him. As Steinmetz and Walenski dig into the mystery from a motel room and then join Smiley on a tense trip back to his childhood home, the past begins to feel less like a memory and more like something still alive, watching from the trees. Meanwhile, Baker wakes up at a remote rest stop and quickly finds himself trapped in a situation spiraling far beyond his control. With law enforcement closing in, the children growing stranger, and supernatural forces erupting into the open, Baker is forced into survival mode once again. By the end, both sides of the story are pulled toward unsettling revelations: one buried in a childhood treehouse, the other waiting on the road ahead.

As Smiley, Steinmetz, and Walenski arrive in Milford chasing psychic flashes, missing clues, and their growing suspicion that Baker may be beyond saving.

Meanwhile, Smiley follows a new lead tied to his missing sister; involving strange symbols, a secretive cult, and a date that has haunted him for years. With one agent hunted on the road and another digging into the past, the cell finds itself split between survival and obsession — and both paths may be leading toward something far larger than they understand.
