Members Reviews: Great Super Hero Novel With many Superheroes on the big screen and different ones coming out nearly every month, one might think that there would be a lot of great superhero novels out there. For the most part, they do not exist; âUnbound,â though, could certainly be nominated as such a story. âUnboundâ tells the continuing story of the Green Lama, a true Buddhist Lama, who uses his mystical talents for the good of humanity. Its background, history, and perspective is entirely consistent with the original 14 stories published from April 1940 to March 1943. It is an authorized continuation of the Green Lama pulps keeping the characters the same as the ones originally the original 14 novels written by Kendell Foster Crossen. It builds wonderfully on the old and projects the hero in new and creative situations. In all ways, âUnboundâ can be considered canonical. The stories open with a small vignette where Jethro Dumont, the Green Lama, first encounters his Tibetan teacher, Geshe Tsaroung. He asks for training, not for money, wealth, fame, or excess, but for purpose. Tsaroung seems reluctant, but his ring indicates differently, and so Dumont finds his destiny. As the novel progresses, nearly each chapter gives us another glimpse into his training and how he gains the capability to be the Green Lama, beginning in 1923. After the flashback at the beginning of the first chapter, the story jumps to 1939, a few months after the original novels happened. The Green Lama starts a new adventure, one that will literally save the world. With the backdrop of Chapter 1, Garcia has established a strong hook for the rest of the story. In Greece, we the Green Lama and two buddies at the heart of a mystery that they do not understand based on a nightmare from Tsarong. The reader has the advantage of having other characters bring more understanding to the tremendous task before the Lama. Most useful are the Nazis dispatched by Hitler much like in âIndiana Jones and the Lost Arkâ who are after a Jade book that is apparently located in the Greek city that Dumont has entered looking for Jean; eventually it leads to the South Pacific. The mystery harkens back to Lovecraftâs 1928 âThe Call of Cthulhu,â and the rising city in Tsarongâs vision/nightmare is Râlyeh where the dead Cthulhu is dreamingâsomewhere in the South Pacific. A superbly creative novel with something new on every page, loaded with fun situations and desperate measures! The reader will love it. Garciaâs flowing narrative is a joy to read, different from the pulpish, newspaper-like original Crossen stories. When done, the reader will want more, but will also be tired from the explosive ride of the novel. He will also want to go back and read those earlier stories filtered now with the enhanced understanding provided by Garcia, such as how the Green Lama uses radioactive salts work without Dumont sprouting tumors growing in every direction.

(Marian Keyes) Members Reviews: Truly Outstanding I get through a lot of audiobooks - usually between 6-8 per month and many of them fall into the same genre as this. This is amongst the best Ive listened to in recent months. Its quite astounding this is a debut novel. The story was gripping and characters well fleshed out. My only criticism is the narration. There was nothing particularly unpleasant about it, it just was not on par with some of the great narrators. Its a shame lesser books have better narrators - otherwise this is a 5/5 read. An interesting & accomplished new voice While I found the protagonist annoying to start with, the story is so interesting it kept me going. Well written twists and turns kept me guessing. Wry observations and a few outright laughs. I hope we get more of the murder team in future books. Constructed & soppy This book was a bit of a disappointment, with a constructed storyline & a soppy father daughter relationship (phew). Enjoyable twisty tale - a great read- one that was difficult to stop! Really enjoyed the first person narrative and our lead character Cat as she negotiates her job as a london murder DC- while her upbringing and family story plays out. Will certainly be looking out for Caz Frear books in the future! Great read Read the reviews and they werent wrong, this is a really good read and will look forward to the next one. Once started I couldnt stop listening.

Opiniones de los miembros: Fantastica! Una historia impresionante, magnificamente tramada y expuesta en las palabras del autor. Tambien lei la primera novela, La Ultima Cripta, que precede a Ciudad Negra. Y, aunque ambas me gustaron mucho por interesantes, emocionantes y de gran suspenso, en mi opinion Ciudad Negra es mejor que su antecesora. Tiene una trama mas concisa y menos convoluta que la primera; sumamente interesante y de muchisimo suspenso. No es posible dejar de leer esta novela despues de haberla empezado. Los protagonistas, aunque personas comunes, no lo son tanto con su afan de aventurarse en lugares reconditos e insolitos y son personas que inmediatamente simpatizan al lector y de principio a fin no puede uno menos que desearles buena suerte mientras sufre con ellos sus peripecias. Felicito al autor, Fernando Gamboa Gonzalez por esta magnifica historia que nos ha relatado y ya se lo he hecho saber a el personalmente. Mientras la leia tambien se me ocurrio que esta historia pertenece en una pelicula de Hollywood; lo cual tambien se lo he dicho al Sr. Gamboa, quien en su nota al fin del relato menciona que otras personas tambien lo han sugerido. Recomiendo mucho esta novela a aquellos que gusten de una historia de bastante emocion y suspenso. Y espero ver el estreno de la pelicula en un tiempo futuro no muy lejano. Felicidades Sr. Gamboa! Muy emocionante, no dejaras de leerla. Muy emocionante desde el principio hasta el final, el primer libro que leí de este autor fue la de la ultima cripta y me gusto y no dudando lei esta nueva novela de acción y supero mis expectativas, parece una película de acción del tipo Indiana jones, que al final los protagonistas siempre se salvan aun cuando ya no hay escapatoria, pero que al final te deja un final feliz y enganchado con los personajes.
