Welcome to the Mark Wood Explorer Podcast. Join Mark on his latest expedition as he battles through some of the world's most extreme terrain to summit Mount Everest. In this episode Mark is back home in the UK after ill health made any further attempts to ascent Everest impossible. His involvement in the climb would have endangered his own life and the lives of the other participants of the climb. He shares his thoughts and feelings and reads a section of a recent blog entitled ‘A Dead Lion’ where he is looking back on this trip, which he summarises with a famous Shackleton quote ‘better a live donkey than a dead lion’. As Mark explained in a previous episode, a summit attempt is only successful if everyone gets home safe, so the decisions to head back to the UK was made for the right reasons at the right time.
