Archaeoastronomy and Decoding The Long Man of Wilmington | Stuart Mason | Megalithomania Interview

Hugh Newman of Megalithomania interviews Stuart Mason, author of The Long Man of Wilmington: Britain's Stonehenge of the East [https://thelongmanofwilmington.com] (2026). They discuss the mystery of archaeoastronomy and how the ancients aligned sites all across the planet, and then get into Stuart's latest discoveries of solstice and equinox alignments at the Long Man in Sussex. What he has found is as important as the solstice alignment of Stonehenge, as it marks a calendar throughout the solar year. Hugh and Stuart also discuss other sites that have a similar phenomenon, such as Karahan Tepe, Newgrange, and other ancient landscapes that incorporate this knowledge. Stuart Mason is a researcher, folklorist, author, and ancient landscape guide with over 30 years of experience studying archaeoastronomy and ancient cosmologies worldwide. His work focuses on lunar cycles, solstices, and long-term celestial patterns, and lived ion remote islands in the Pacific, where he learnt the indigenous systems of navigational astronomy. His focus now is on exploring how prehistoric monuments encode astronomical knowledge within mythic and ritual landscapes. Through field research, writing, and guided exploration, Stuart investigates the enduring relationship between land, sky, and sacred time.
