She talks about growing up in Petaluma, California initially pursuing a psychology degree but ultimately  decided to go to beauty school and discovered her passion for hair. Barb moved to San Francisco to pursue her dreams of owning a salon, working at Fashion Week, and becoming a celebrity hairstylist, eventually moving to Los Angeles.
