This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest updates from Monaco, starting with a royal appearance on the silver screen. On May 27, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attended a special screening of Blow-Up at the Théâtre des Variétés. The event, hosted by the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco as part of its “Toulard du cinéma” programme, paid tribute to classic cinema and drew a crowd of film enthusiasts. The culinary world lit up on May 28 and 29 as world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa returned to the Principality for two exclusive evenings at Nobu Fairmont Monte-Carlo. Guests were treated to a rare, immersive dining experience, as the master chef himself curated an unforgettable menu blending Japanese precision with Peruvian flair. In sporting triumph, Monaco smashed records at the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra, concluding their campaign on May 31 with a record-breaking haul of 44 medals — eclipsing their previous best of 33 from Malta in 2023. It was a proud moment for the Principality’s athletes on the European stage. Across the border, France is taking a page out of Monaco’s book with sweeping new anti-smoking measures. From July 1, 2025, smoking will be banned in outdoor spaces frequented by children — including beaches, parks, school entrances, bus stops, and stadiums — following Monaco’s pioneering lead in public health policy. On the global stage, Monaco reaffirmed its commitment to human rights this week, marking 30 years since ratifying the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The Principality remains a strong voice in the international fight against racism and discrimination. At home, Monaco’s government is preparing for a new chapter. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II has appointed Philippe Mettoux as Monaco’s new Minister of State, effective July 4. With an illustrious career in the French Council of State and SNCF, and notable work in the Ministry of Justice and anti-corruption efforts, Mettoux brings deep institutional expertise to the role. In basketball, it’s all to play for in the Betclic Elite semi-finals. Villeurbanne thrashed a depleted Monaco side 94–74 in Game 1 on Tuesday night in Lyon, as the Roca Team struggled without key players Mike James and Daniel Theis. But Monaco bounced back in style in Game 2, levelling the series and reclaiming home advantage in front of their home crowd. This week on NEWS.MC TV, we’re joined by none other than Gad Elmaleh. This week on NEWS.MC TV, we bring you the latest from the Principality, where legacy, sport, and celebration take centre stage. Monaco paid tribute to a motorsport legend on May 23 with the launch of a foundation honouring the life and achievements of Eddie Jordan. The former F1 team boss, entrepreneur and much-loved broadcaster passed away earlier this year in South Africa. The foundation, based in Monaco, aims to continue his work in motorsport, education, and youth development. Engines roared and champagne flowed as the Monaco Grand Prix once again delivered a weekend of high-octane glamour. A surprise winner kept fans on the edge of their seats in what proved to be one of the most unpredictable races in recent memory. Celebrities, royalty and racing fans alike packed the harbour to witness the world’s most iconic street race. Monaco’s athletes marched with pride into the Estadi Nacional in Andorra on May 27, kicking off the 20th edition of the Games of the Small States of Europe. With 123 athletes competing across various disciplines, the Principality is hoping to make its mark at the week-long international competition. Culinary prestige returned home as Marcel Ravin, Monaco’s own gastronomic maestro, was crowned top chef at the 2025 Hôtel & Lodge Awards in Paris. Recognised for his signature fusion of Caribbean flavours and Mediterranean precision, Ravin’s work at Blue Bay and Elsa continues to define Monaco’s fine dining scene. In the business world, Société des Bains de Mer announced record-breaking results for the 2024–2025 financial year. With turnover climbing 9 percent to €768 million and consolidated profit hitting €110 million, SBM continues to demonstrate its central role in Monaco’s economic vitality. On the basketball court, Monaco’s Roca Team experienced both the agony and ecstasy of elite sport. After falling 80–70 to Fenerbahçe in their first-ever Euroleague final on May 25, the team bounced back just days later with a determined 76–69 win over Le Mans in the Betclic Elite quarter-final first leg. Joining us in the studio this week is Enrica Segond, President of La Clinique Monte-Carlo. In an exclusive interview, she discusses the evolution of private healthcare in Monaco, the clinic’s pioneering patient-first approach, and the future of personalised medicine in the Principality. NEWS.MC TV brings you the top headlines from Monaco this week — a week of culture, history, diplomacy, and a touch of sporting flair. Monaco’s literary scene took the spotlight as the Prince Pierre Foundation unveiled the finalists for the prestigious 2025 Literary Prize and Discovery Grant. The announcement came during a meeting of the Foundation’s Literary Council, chaired by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, at the Ritz in Paris on May 14. The shortlists reaffirm Monaco’s enduring dedication to the arts and literary excellence. In a nod to history, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II continued his tour of ancestral Grimaldi territories with an official visit to southern Italy. This follows his recent journey through the French Ardennes, as the Prince strengthens Monaco’s cultural and historical connections across Europe. Meanwhile, HSH Princess Charlene is diving into community outreach — quite literally. On May 15, her foundation unveiled a mobile aquatic centre in the village of Allos in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The initiative aims to promote water safety and swimming education in remote areas, bringing the Princess’s mission to rural communities. Diplomatic affairs saw Prince Albert II in Tirana on May 16 for the 6th Summit of the European Political Community. The summit brought together heads of state to discuss regional stability, energy, and shared challenges across the continent. Religion and royalty met in Rome on May 18 as the Princely couple attended the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV, held in a packed St. Peter’s Square just ten days after the pontiff’s election. The occasion marked a significant moment in global religious diplomacy. Back in the Principality, Monaco’s Fire Brigade revealed a new badge design — only the third in its long history — during a ceremony at the Condamine relief centre on May 19. The update symbolises modernisation while preserving the corps’ proud traditions. Shifting gears — quite literally — Prince Albert II launched Monaco’s first-ever cycling academy on May 21. The project reflects the Principality’s growing passion for cycling and offers a structured pathway for aspiring riders to develop under expert guidance. Finally, the much-loved pre-Grand Prix charity football match made its return to Stade Louis-II, rebranded as the Racing Stars Football Cup. Held on May 21, the game saw Formula 1 drivers trade wheels for boots in a spirited clash against the Barbagiuans of Monaco, drawing celebrities and fans alike in a celebration of sport and solidarity. This week, we’re joined by Umberto Riva, CEO of Riva Sports Management. In an exclusive interview, Riva shares insights into the evolving world of athlete management, the challenges of nurturing talent in the high-stakes world of elite sport, and why Monaco continues to be a magnet for top-tier sporting talent.
