Beskrivelse

In Episode two of the “We Still Don’t Have a Name” podcast, we dive into our chaotic lives as musicians. From flying to gigs where they bake you cakes (yes, that happened) to gigs that never happened because someone forgot we existed (yes, that also happened). We also talk about playing to a single dog at a wedding, gigging while sick, and how 12 people in a 100-seat venue really makes you question life choices. Thanks to all five listeners (hi, Mom)! Hit us up with questions or just text us… you probably have our number!

What Else Can’t You Do?

In Episode 6 of ‘My Plan Is’ we discuss the realities life as a freelance musician. Kicking off with a tale of a Wolverhampton man and his underwhelming equipment… and he still charged me! After that incredible regalement, we shift quickly to the far more useful discussion of the nightmare of unexpectedly tax bills and the importance of planning ahead. We also chat about our efforts to build passive income. About how a small portfolio of stock images is very slowly generating daily earnings. While platforms like Etsy to sell prints and flipping musical gear for profit help balance out the ups and downs of not having a ‘real’ job. We open up about the emotional toll that the industry can take, through periods of feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next, breaking goals into smaller, more manageable tasks, and wrap up with a reminder that making progress as a freelancer often means celebrating small wins, whilst keeping an eye on the bigger picture.

The Flies Have Moved In and So Have We

This episode, we discuss how social media can be super effective when trying to your your diary with more gigs, even if you don’t have much of a following. We also touch upon the crazy variety that we have as freelancing creatives, from Nuneaton to Madrid and New York to Coventry, it definitely keeps things interesting. One of the main takeaways from our chat today is that you don’t have to have everything polished and perfect to put it out there. Sharing our less-than-perfect practice sessions and very much ‘live’ performances has helped us to embrace the imperfections and be more open with sharing my progress rather than waiting for a perfection that we’ll never achieve. Lastly, we discuss some of the difficulties of managing finances when sometimes you wait a long time to be paid, or have unexpected bills pile up out of the blue.
