Mysteries of History
Around 1200 BC, the Sea Peoples swept across the eastern Mediterranean and attacked major powers such as the Hittites and Egypt. They were a collection of different peoples, including the Sherden, Peleset, and Denyen, who arrived by sea with women, children, and livestock. Egyptian sources depict them wearing horned and feathered helmets, armed with spears, swords, and shields. Their raids contributed to the collapse of several Bronze Age kingdoms, and cities such as Ugarit and Hattusa were destroyed. After their defeat by Ramesses III, some groups, such as the Philistines, settled in the southern Levant and blended into new cultures. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
