Neighborhood NAMI: Meet Dave

Dave grew up with brothers in the mental health system. He saw the shortcomings first hand. The stigma, the lack of suitable medications, the lack of information about their conditions, all of these things combined to make navigating the mental health world pretty challenging. Then he was introduced to NAMI, which was then just getting started on the Northshore. Dave was all in and helped grow the local NAMI into what it is today.

Neighborhood NAMI, fueled by Chevron, presents the story of Ashley, who travels from the dark depths of severe mental illness to the light of recovery. Ashley even becomes a Peer Support Specialist for NAMI, sharing her experiences with others on similar paths.

In this episode, Neighborhood NAMI showcases an individual who tells the story of his addiction, his mental illness, and how the two are intertwined. Chad: The Winding Road to Recovery is narrated by Tom Rowan, a certified addicition counselor and Peer Support Specialist for NAMI St Tammany. Neighborhood NAMI is fueled by Chevron.

Four local non-profit leaders, Nick Richard, Rich Kramer, Joey Roberts, and Cleveland Wester, get together to talk about their own mental health experiences. They share some powerful stories and discuss how far men have come when dealing with their own mental health issues.
