New City NYC Sermons
The Gospel doesn't change. But the way we carry it into the world has to. In this fifth message of our "Becoming a Glocal Disciple-Making Church" series, Piero Gorriti opens 1 Corinthians 9:19–23 to explore what Paul meant when he said he was free from all, yet made himself a slave to all. Not a loss of identity, but a voluntary willingness to bridge the cultural gap, to adopt someone else's standpoint, so that some might be saved. It's a posture that costs something. And it raises an honest question: Have we been willing to sacrifice our cultural comfort for the sake of the Gospel? But bridging the gap is only the beginning. Because on the other side of it is a person, and that's where Paul moves from preacher to disciple-maker. From follower to multiplier. The way he invested in Timothy. The way a shepherd leaves ninety-nine for the one. What happens when we stop waiting for the many and start with the one in front of us?
