episode OBGYN Pearls of Wisdom: Twisting the Night Away cover

Description

Join Dr. Judith Levy and Dr. Nanci Levine as they illustrate in vivid detail, what residency was like for strong female doctors in the early 1980s and how their careers unfolded over the next few decades. They take us through #metoo experiences long before there was a movement and they describe long hours toiling away at work, long before there were work hour limitations. We explore sexism in the workplace, including salary inequality, and delve into the evolution of medicine as a beloved career to one based on the bottom line, as enforced by the system. This episode is profound on many levels and these strong and intelligent women eloquently lead us through a history lesson. Featuring: Twisting the Night Away, Sam Cooke, and Now and Forever, Carol King

Pearls of Wisdom: The COVID Generation

Join us as we revisit the hospital during it's arguably scariest time: COVID 19. These three former residents led the OBGYN service with courage and managed to still practice excellent medicine in spite of the many difficulties they faced and personal fears they harbored. During the course of our very interesting conversation, I realized how much I had blocked out. It all seems like such a distant memory, though was only 5 years ago. Oddly, memories much older stand out in my mind much more vividly, but for these 3 former residents, this experience was formative, influential, and harrowing. Einstein, as it is described in this episode, is a magical place, for better or for worse. Please join us as we hear their perspective on residency and being a junior attending. Dr. Woods is a Hospitalist at WellStar Dr. Chang is Director of Medical Partnerships, Billion to One I reference St. Denis Medical, 2024, NBC, Episode 1. Some people remember everything about training or absolutely nothing. Two people can even come from the same program and have a completely different perspective even though collectively it’s a shared experience. Residency, the pressure cooker of job training, was both extraordinary and traumatic. Everyone’s experience is personal. Some need to remember to move on and others need to forget, but then there are those that can’t do either. Theres no way to know how you’ll cope until you go through it yourself. We laugh, we put the pieces together, we tumble…. Please join us as we begin to unpack our shared experiences and explore the impact of our training in the short and long term. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for the next one.
