Sadly due to a lack of funding we are closing down OCTOPOD. We are have greatly enjoyed being a podcast in your rotation and hope you all find new ways to keep abreast of ocean news and literature. We didn't want to leave you without some recent info though so here are the links to what we spoke about in the episode. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-12-10/stormwater-continues-to-pollute-l-a-countys-oceans-rivers-and-lakes-report-finds https://www.npr.org/2019/12/05/782694371/offshore-wind-may-help-the-planet-but-will-it-hurt-whales We like to think that someday this podcast may return, so we are saying goodbye for now and keep on keeping on!

We had the awesome opportunity to record a podcast at the https://www.nwstraits.org/ conference this year and we are so excited to share the talented and passionate people who help preserve and protect the Northwest Straits marine ecosystem. This episode features a mash-up of 9 interviews from a variety of roles and locations within the initiative. We focused on citizen (or community) science and in this episode we hope you all discover a new way to take action in your communities! In this interview episode Allie and Raye welcome Joshua Manning to the podcast. Raye and Allie get a little political (sorry) about President Trump's actions to leave the https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2019/11/04/trump-makes-it-official-us-will-withdraw-paris-climate-accord/, but then bring it back to happy news about social media helping confirm the adorable https://news.mongabay.com/2019/11/facebook-and-instagram-posts-help-locate-pygmy-seahorses-in-taiwan/. Raye also shares a food-for-thought article about the importance of https://geographical.co.uk/nature/oceans/item/3482-do-marine-protected-areas-harm-local-communities

This episode is hosted by Allie and Nick (with a special guest appearance by Mike Hay who is OCTO's data scientist). Allie shares some new research on when we can expect the https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/arctic-ocean-could-be-ice-free-part-year-soon-2044, hint hint it's soon.
