When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old David Evans with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene. On April 21, 2020, John, 39, and Katie Palmer, 38, decided to go on an early morning stroll. Katie loved nature and wanted to show her husband some killdeer birds she had seen nesting just up the road. At approximately 7:45 am, just 15 minutes after the loving couple left their home, tragedy struck and changed everything when a local man hit John and Katie from behind with his truck while they were on their walk.
