Since we are not God, we cannot know who will answer his call and who will be effective in his service. This means both that we should be cautious about judging other people and their potential effectiveness in the kingdom of God, and also that we should not question our own abilities and gifts for service. We may feel that we do not have much to offer God - but that would be a superficial evaluation, based on our own limited perspective. If God calls, he also empowers.” - Bill Arnold2) Ask the Lord for forgiveness, and to give you a clean heart and walk according to his Word in the light of his salvation. Psalm 51:103) Only Jesus is the perfect King, and is worthy of our praise and adoration! Revelation 19:16

Since Saul had rejected Yahweh reject as King over him Yahweh rejected Saul as king over his people. God-glorifying obedience will show up in the small, mundane, normal parts of our lives far more than it will in the big areas and grand gestures. 2) Christ’s obedience and sacrifice is better than your sacrifices and obedience! To obey is better than sacrifice, but Jesus’ sacrifice and obedience are better than anything you could ever offer and the only way to please God the Father! Hebrews 10:1-10

SERMON NOTES – May 31, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 14:24-52Topic: The King’s Foolishness ExposedAttribute: Praise Christ as the True King and SaviorGOD’S DM: “King Saul’s foolishness led Israel into sin and would have resulted in the death of his own son, Jonathan, if the people had not ransomed and saved him. King Jesus’ wisdom allows him to save and ransom his people from their own foolishness and the death they deserve!”Notes: Rash V_____________ (vs. 24)1 Samuel 14:6Unintended C________________ (vs. 25-35)Genesis 9:4Leviticus 7:26-27“The man who did not obey God in chapter 13 and expressed no confidence in God when faced with his enemies, who devised the crazy plan to save himself by starving his troops, now sounded so concerned about the people’s act of disobedience! He tried to put it right by playing the priest, building an altar where the animals could be slaughtered and eaten properly. But there is not the slightest suggestion that he saw how he had caused the problem.” -John Woodhouse 3All A______________ (vs. 36-46)1 Samuel 8:181 Samuel 13:111 Samuel 14:29-30S______________ of Saul’s Reign (vs. 47-52)“Although we have much more to hear about Saul, there is a sense in which the essential story has now been told. And as though to signal this, the narrative provides at this point a summary of Saul’s reign. Effectively Saul’s reign was now over.” -John Woodhouse 1 Samuel 9:161 Samuel 8:11-12IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) See yourself.Take a look in the mirror and see yourself as King Saul! SERMON NOTES – May 24, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 14:1-23Topic: When God is for UsAttribute: Praise Christ as the Wise King and SaviorGOD’S DM: “When I am for you, you can scale walls and take on troops in the sure hope that I will again deliver you.” Notes: Psalms 18:291) The Setting- Audacity- Secrecy - Inactivity2) The Imagination of Faith - Possibility- Certainity Psalms 18:29- Loyalty- StrategyOh Sinnerman, where you gonna run to? Sinnerman, where you gonna run to?Where you gonna run to?All on that day.IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1. Jonathan understood that God can save, whether by many or few. And the purpose of God is to send Jesus to seek and to save those who are prepared to admit, I'm lost, I'm hopeless, I'm sinful, I'm stuck. And the reason some of us are not Christians is because we believe that we are powerful, we are secure, we are religious, we are good. So either we allow the truth of God's Word to diagnose our condition or we diagnose the condition for ourselves - which will not end well.2. Out what hopeless situation are you looking for God's deliverance, to see God create something out of nothing?3. How is faith informing your imagination? Where is it that God is calling to live out your faith and see His kingdom advance?4. To whom are you saying, I am with you heart and soul. Whose back do you have to help them secure what God is doing?
