Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. It causes intense itching in infected individuals. This infection is highly contagious and is transmitted through direct and prolonged skin-to-skin contact. The origin of the term “scabies” comes from the Latin word scabere, which means “to scratch”.
