Pierogi to Prayer
For anyonewho spends a lot of time metaphorically living amongst Polish History, you tendto see a lot of surnames that crop up again and again no matter the century.Leszczynski, Poniatowski, Radziwill, just to name a few round out a veritablePolish who’s who of movers and shakers. Another one of these surnames is sharedby our guest today, and it is this history that brings him to our program. Jan Ledochowskishares the surname of a family who’s origins walk hand in hand with that ofPoland itself and also for that matter, that of Ukraine. Jan has catalogued anextensive family history reaching back 1,000 years. Yet his understanding ofhis family is not one that exists wholly in the past. With a background infinance, Jan has also worked in Poland before and after the fall of Communismand has advocated dialogue, understanding and reconciliation between Poles andtheir heritage both the good and the bad. His level of knowledge about history, current events, and religion was truly stunning, and I found him to be anincredible individual to speak to. As such, our full conversation couldn’t becontained within one episode and as we have done before in our show, we havesplit it into two parts one following the other. Please do enjoy thisfascinating journey through the history of the Ledochowski Family with Jan.
