Jensen Interceptor Synthetic Seduction EP PM+22 After giving us a minute to catch our breath, Australia's most prolific electroid pressure cooker Jensen Interceptor barrels back into earshot with some of his most wildly tweaked productions to date. The Sydney-born sound crusher makes a PM+ debut with two servings of the kind of intensely detailed, nerve-shredding gear that makes speaker stacks melt into a puddle of radioactive goo. 'Alien Body Positivity' is something we can all get behind, not least with the kind of mutant style that makes everyone throw themselves into distinctly unearthly forms. There's a rave sensibility coursing through the lurid square wave synth work, but it's warped with reckless abandon at every turn and strapped to a brutally heavy kick that sounds like boulders bouncing down a mountain pass. 'Flux Entrance' finds a slower groove and then deftly peppers it with double-time intensity for a future footwork sort of effect — all the better to ride the exotic lead lick and stretched-out sonic zipper at the front of the mix. Hold tight for the razor chops on the vocal in the final stretch — the dizzying icing on a dislocated disco cake. On both counts this is Jensen coming correct with the most delightfully damaged wares in his accomplished career. Artwork by Håkan Ullberg Mastering by Isle Audio

Drive

Arriving at heads-down techno from a spiky angle, Anna Hjalmarsson is just the kind of non-conformist that makes the PM+ series sweat. From a decade spent in the trenches of the Frankfurt scene, Anna’s trajectory is anything but production-line club fodder. So, when she does decide to throw down a pair of slammers, they bristle with the kind of explosive flair we love. 'Drive' rests on an unrelenting bedrock of 909 kicks and toms, all the better to carry the strafing hailstorm of synth vapours and fiercely oscillating feedback that rolls through to send your mind sideways. 'Play' sports rugged, jerky low-end and twitchy electro decorations that call back to the mutant machine funk of early 00s Berlin, but with a whole lot more meat on the bones. This is muscular disco deviance from someone viewing the mechanics of techno through a twisted lens, backed up by the kind of chops that come from years in the game.
