Q&A with Joe Goodspeed
Joe Goodspeed has designed more than 140 fly rod blanks throughout his career, and the majority of them are not nymphing rods. In this episode, Joe reflects on his early days of fly fishing and how those experiences helped shape his approach to fly casting, fly lines, and rod design. Joe also shares his philosophy on fly casting, how different anglers load and fish the same equipment in completely different ways, and why the best fly rods are designed around fishing performance. The conversation covers rod actions, fly line selection, matching lines to rods, turning over different fly types, and how different fishing situations often require a very different approach than what many anglers "train" for. This episode offers a unique perspective from one of the industry's most experienced fly rod and fly line designers, listen closely.
