Description

Rehab Remix - Managing Provider and Payer Perspectives with Stephen Kinsley In this episode of #RehabRemix: Reimagining Boundaries, my discussion is with someone who has deep experience on both the provider and payer side of healthcare, and definitely the first in our series to address the Payer perspective. Stephen Kinsley, now with Ivy Rehab as their Head of Payer Strategy, spent many years in various leadership roles at SCA Health, a major arm of Optum Health in recent years. Stephen's energy and passion around everything he does is contagious. His unique experience with knowledge of both provider and payer, make him a valuable asset to our industry as we try to balance our approaches towards accountable patient-centered care. Stephen explains how payer-provider relationships have evolved from transactional contracting to deeper dialogue focused on value, and outlines nuances across the segments. As Stephen so simply puts it - it's all about the patient. In his words, "it comes down to the patient's journey and his or her care, and I think sometimes we let other things get in the way of that." By prioritizing the patient's journey, we can better control healthcare spending while ensuring patients remain engaged on their healing journeys. "We all want the same thing!" Stephen has a great way of categorizing us as patients; "you got your seniors, you got your everyday workforce, and the individuals that are unfortunate to get injured on the job". Which then led us to discussing the role of PT in Workers' Compensation, a great segment to realize near-term value by leveraging data-driven care. 00:00 Welcome to Rehab Remix 00:33 Meet Stephen Kinsley 01:55 Stephen's Career Journey 03:10 How Payers View PT 04:35 Payer Types Explained 06:38 Hybrid Rehab Goes Mainstream 09:24 Value Based Care in PT 14:04 RTM Beyond Reimbursement 16:39 Burnout and Productivity Pressures 18:47 Point Solutions and Employers 21:32 Where Tech Makes Impact 26:24 Rapid Fire and Wrap Up Where to find Stephen: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-kinsley-bb377a14/ Where to find Rohit: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nayakr [https://www.linkedin.com/in/nayakr] Band Connect LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gGSFsPCg [https://lnkd.in/gGSFsPCg] Website: http://www.bandconnect.net [http://www.bandconnect.net/] Tune in here for practical insights, real-world examples and a glimpse into where rehab is headed: https://bandconnect.net/rehabremix/ [https://bandconnect.net/rehabremix/] #HybridTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #OrthopedicRehab #EvidenceBased #HealthTech #MedTech #DigitalHealth #Musculoskeletal

A Conversation with Simon Hoehn | Rehab Remix S1 E4

Our next episode of Rehab Remix: Reimagining Boundaries features Simon Hoehn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-hoehn-25136522/]. Simon is the Director of Physical Therapy at Aptiva Health [https://www.linkedin.com/company/aptiva-health/], a Louisville based multi-disciplinary orthopedic care and rehab provider. I first connected with Simon through a spine surgeon working at Aptiva. Our interactions demonstrated Simon's passion and purpose-driven approach for what he and Aptiva are doing for orthopedic care and rehab. Our podcast discussion does not disappoint. His first introduction to Physical Therapy started as an athlete, which soon became his professional focus through his training at Washington University in St. Louis. He coached D1 Football and even had stints as an Executive Coach. Simon brings a unique perspective to the PT profession. He emphasizes individualized care over maximizing insurance approved visits. You'll find him a strong advocate for hybrid models that blend in-clinic and at-home care, leveraging technology (like AI and remote monitoring) to empower patients, track progress, and improve outcomes. He stresses the importance of patient engagement and accountability both inside and outside the clinic. Simon's experience as an executive coach informs his leadership style. He believes in empowering staff, reducing burnout by keeping focus on the purpose of therapy, and building a legacy of meaningful work. He acknowledges the challenges clinicians face in adopting new technologies and approaches, emphasizing the need for training, mindset shifts, and supportive accountability rather than punitive measures. He wants the field of physical therapy to be recognized for its expertise in movement science, not just as a place for routine exercises or maintenance, but as specialists in diagnosing and correcting dysfunctional movement patterns. 00:00 — Introduction to Rehab Remix 01:35 — Simon's Background and Journey to PT 04:52 — Coaching Experience 07:32 — Clinical Philosophy and Patient-Centered Care 09:36 — Hybrid Care and Technology Integration 12:35 — Value-Based Care and Personal Injury Protection 16:42 — Remote Therapeutic Monitoring and Implementation Challenges 27:30 — Wrap-up and Closing Thoughts Where to find Simon: * LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-hoehn-25136522/ [https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-hoehn-25136522/] Where to find Rohit: * LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/nayakr [http://www.linkedin.com/in/nayakr] * Band Connect LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/band-connect/ [https://www.linkedin.com/company/band-connect/] * Website: http://www.bandconnect.net [http://www.bandconnect.net/] The Rehab Remix podcast is brought to you by Band Connect Inc.
