Shannon loves long car rides— by herself. Rob can’t stand still— even when he’s in places AND supposed to be sitting idle. 27 | Show me your friends, I’ll show you your future

Society talks a LOT about— WHAT we do WHY we do it WHERE we want to go — but, we don’t talk a lot about the greatest factor… WHO. 👇 If we don’t connect with healthy people in helpful ways, we’ll connect with unhealthy people in harmful ways… … because we’re designed for relationship. That is, we were NOT created to walk through life alone. And we won’t. ⭐️   Pay attention to the people around you. And surround yourself with people who push you to be who you’re designed to be (you do the same for them).

26 | You are the common denominator

Some coaching tells you to change the places and the people you frequent in order to adjust. There’s some great wisdom in that. At the same time, you’ve got take an honest assessment of yourself and realize that in order to “change things” then YOU must change. ⭐️ Remember— wherever you go, there you are. Whereas we want to blame circumstances or others for many of our shortcomings, without denying that outside factors do affect us, we must remember that we are the common denominator in all of our past, present, and future experiences. Rather than focusing on what we can’t control, we must look at what we can— ourselves.

Rob talks about getting tempted to celebrate Christmas his first year in the Marine Corps. It was a strange experience, but it stuck in his mind. 🤯 Now, the lead-in to all of that was trying to escape a “rascal” type of life. But, as they say, wherever you go, there you are. Or, to say it another way, you can’t out-run your problems (especially when YOU are the problem). Sooner or later, you’ve gotta deal with you.
