Karina Lester, is the Aboriginal Co-Manager and Senior Aboriginal Language Expert at The University of Adelaide’s Mobile Language Team (MLT) [https://mobilelanguageteam.com.au/our-team/]. She is a Yankunytjatjara Anangu woman who grew up on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far north-west of South Australia. Growing up on the APY Lands in South Australia, she is a prominent voice in language revitalization, anti-nuclear advocacy, and cultural preservation. She is a second-generation survivor of the 1953 British Nuclear Tests at Emu Field. As the daughter of the late, renowned Indigenous activist Yami Lester—who was blinded by the nuclear fallout—she frequently speaks on global platforms (including addressing UN Treaty Negotiations in New York) regarding the intergenerational health and environmental impacts felt by her people.
